Frequently Asked Questions
1. What is the length and frequency of sessions?
Typically, sessions last 50-minutes, 1x per week. Therapy is not one-size fits all though! Together, we can figure out what works best for you. Need a once a month check-in? GREAT! Having a rough week and need two sessions this week? PERFECT. Does every other week work better for your schedule? AWESOME. If it works for you, it works for me.
2. What is the rate per session?
The fee per session is $175. A limited number of sliding scale sessions are available at the rate of $150 per session.
Psychoeducational evaluations start at $3850 per assessment, though may increase up to $5250 if an educationally related mental health assessment is included. Pricing will not increase without notice and consent. Independent Educational Evaluations (IEEs) are typically paid for by the school district or SELPA. Reach out for support in navigating this system if needed.
3. Do you accept insurance?
Not at this time. Currently, private pay is the only option offered through Blowfish Therapy Inc, however; Superbills are available upon request if you would like to submit them to your insurance provider for reimbursement.
4. Will you diagnose me?
The beauty in not working with insurance panels is that a diagnosis is not needed. Sometimes, we are just having a hard time, and that’s enough. It doesn’t always warrant the need to pathologize our behavior. If you are looking for education about a diagnosis though, that is available.
5. What is your availability?
A flexible variety of session days and times are available, particularly thanks to teletherapy. Currently, sessions are offered 7 days per week, with morning, afternoon, and evening hours available. Weekend sessions are typically offered with morning time slots, however; This is subject to change based on client needs. A limited number of in-person sessions are available in San Dimas with Chelsea or Jon.
6. Can I book multiple sessions in advance?
Absolutely, though it is not required. If you’d like the same day/time every week, we can make that work! If your schedule changes from week to week, that works for me as well! I encourage you to discuss your scheduling needs with me, and I’m sure we’ll be able to figure out something that works! Flexibility is my middle name! (Not really - It’s Leigh Marie, but I’ve contemplated the change!)
7. How are sessions booked?
Scheduling is done easy through an online platform - Simple Practice. This is the same platform utilized for the video or audio sessions. Typically, most clients text or email to book an appointment though.
8. How to I send my payment?
Payments are made through Ivy Pay - a payment system designed exclusively for therapists. A one-time step up occurs in which the client stores their card on file. The card information is not shared with me. At the start of each session, your card on file will be automatically charged the session amount. You can add your debit, credit, HSA, or FSA card on file. You won’t need to worry about sending a venmo payment each time, writing a check, mailing in payment - we take the hassle out of the process for you!
9. How do I schedule my first session?
Yay! The first step would be to contact me, Chelsea. You can do so by clicking the “Contact Us” button at the top right corner. You can also email me directly at cheller@blowfishtherapyinc.com or call/text 909-660-9548. Let’s have a 15-minute free consultation to answer questions you might have about the process. If you’re ready to book now, click on the Scheduling Tab and you’ll be able to book your first session. I can also help connect you directly with Jon or Melissa.
10. What’s behind the name Blowfish Therapy Inc?
I wanted something more than “Chelsea Heller Counseling Services.” That’s boring, and I’m not boring. I wanted something that was close to my heart. Hootie and the Blowfish is my all time favorite band in the universe. You’ll frequently find me wearing a Hootie shirt, and their music is on in my house 24/7. Additionally, I started to notice the similarities between humans and blowfish! Blowfish are very slow moving (like humans, as our growth doesn’t happen overnight). Blowfish have an automatic protective response when they feel threatened (sound familiar?). Blowfish must slowly let out their air to return to homeostasis. If we don’t let out our air (metaphorically speaking), we’ll pop like a balloon! Blowfish are highly adaptable to their environment, like a chameleon! So are people. Blowfish resort to self-mutilation in reaction to stress or boredom. People tend to self-sabotage too! Combine my love for Hootie and the similarities between Blowfish and Humans - the name Blowfish Therapy Inc was born.
11. Can I follow you on Instagram?
Sure! But to maintain professional boundaries, I won’t follow you back. Also, social media posts are not considered to be a replacement for therapy, but rather another therapeutic outlet.
